Appropriate Body NQT Package - Support and Administration

This service will provide schools with an Appropriate Body to oversee the Induction of NQTs which remains a statutory duty for all schools, academies and LAs but with funding going directly to schools through the DSG.

Essex is an accredited Appropriate Body and is offering the following service to enable schools/Academies to meet the requirements.

Programme outline:

This programme is aimed at Induction Tutors and NQTs and will include:

·         Registration and returns to the GTCE

·         Opportunities for up to 3 half day Induction Tutor Training

·         Access to a support website, ‘NQT Manager’

·         An electronic copy of the Essex NQT Portfolio, a guide for all involved in the Induction period

·         A CD containing all the forms to be used during Induction

·         Telephone and email helpline

·         Monitoring of all end of term reports for NQTs

·         NQT panel re failing NQTs/extensions to the Induction period

·         Regular updates re Induction

If your NQT is vulnerable the following is also available (at no further cost):

·         A monitoring visit to the NQT induction tutor to ensure they have carried out all of their statutory roles and have evidence to support their judgement that the NQT is unlikely to meet Induction standards

·         Observation of a lesson(s) delivered by the NQT to quality assure the judgements made by the school

·         Discussion with the NQT to listen to their views on the support they have had regarding their statutory entitlement

·         Feedback to the NQT and co-ordinator with regard to the next steps to be taken to improve the chance of the NQT meeting the induction standards including making recommendations regarding any additional support that is felt to be needed

Cost

£150 per NQT per term.

For second and subsequent NQT’s registered in the same year there will be a 50% discount on the above price.

Please note: This cost will take effect from September 2011 and schools have a statutory role regarding Induction and need to register with an Appropriate Body to oversee Induction.

Additional support can be purchased in half day units and could include for example a second monitoring visit, before the final assessment report is submitted, towards the end of the Induction period.

NQT Manager

Essex Local Authority operates an electronic registration and monitoring system, NQT Manager.

On this site there is advice for tutors, schools and NQTs.

Assessments are completed and submitted electronically and feedback given as appropriate.

The site also has a very useful ‘Content’ section which contains useful documents and advice.

To look at the range of courses available for tutors and the Introductory course for NQTs follow the link to the NQT Manager/Resources/Induction Tutor Courses.

Further support for vulnerable Newly Qualified Teachers

This support is provided in relation to NQTs that have been identified as being at risk of failing to meet the Induction Standards following a review of reports by the LA in its role as the Appropriate Body.

This programme is aimed at Headteachers and senior managers/Induction tutors within schools who want to ensure that any NQT who is finally judged as failing does not have a case to show that the school did not provide sufficient support.

Programme could include:

 ·         a second monitoring visit, before the final assessment report is submitted, towards the end of the Induction period.

 ·         a visit to support the NQT with specific issues such as literacy in the classroom, behaviour management, assessment for learning, subject support etc.

Cost

£195.00 per half day visit.

Additional support can be purchased in half day units.
